~ WELLCOME ~
My name is Chad Cornell, Integrative Herbalist, Jyoti Therapist, and founder of the Hollow Reed School of Healing Arts & Herbals. Almost 30 years ago, I like many of you reading this I'm sure, realized I was not destined to live an ordinary life. In many ways I came to realize why I never felt "normal" or built for the mainstream program laid out for me by our materialistic culture. I realized there was a great collective wound of disconnection and a crisis of meaning in our world.
Like so many others, I struggled to find my place and had to go through my own rights of passage of struggle before discovering my path and purpose ~ which has resulted in this school. I realized through my own trials and tribulations that our medical system was sick, and that our species and planet was in need of awakening and deep healing. It also became clear that one of the best and most secure investments I could make was to reconnect with the earth and my own inner faculties of knowing. I decided way back then to commit myself to learning ancient and sacred healing arts such as herbal medicine, and to master them to the best of my abilities.
I was motivated then by my own healing, but also to help those around me, and to carry the torch for future generations. I've come to accept that here is a lot of suffering, anxiety, and confusion in these times. Yet our challenges can be the compost for our blooming. Nature and the timeless practices of inner alchemy are such precious gifts for our times. Sadly few people know about these ways. Such methods of healing and "being" along with medicinal plants and fungi, can help us discover and create a sanctuary of inner peace and love. These are states and vibrations that are desperately needed in our world ~ they also happen to feel great as we develop them. Health and happiness are not destinations - they are states of being. Plant medicines and other methods (called dharma in the East) can also fuel us on our life missions as spiritual warriors and ambassadors of change. Each of us at our own pace, amidst our own life challenges, and in the many diverse ways we are each meant to do so.
OUR COMMON ROOTS
In 2003 I graduated as a Master Herbalist, and I have operated a natural health clinic and apothecary for the past 17 years. I have studied with healers and wisdom keepers of many traditions, and also released an internationally acclaimed film ( Our Common Roots ~ Unveiling Our Global Traditions of Healing with Plants ) now featured o Gaia TV. Many of you have likely discovered this school after watching the film. So many people are waking up and questing to reconnect with their roots, and we all have roots to a culture that held traditional earth knowledge and a relationship to Sprit.
It is now my joy and passion to be the teacher and guide that I was searching for as a youth, and to play my part in the science and art of awakening to our full potential and vitality. These days I am honoured to be a teacher, a friend, and a guide to budding herbalists and those called to the healing arts. Our students live mainly across Canada and the US. However the plant medicine portion of our training is ideally suited to all people in the Northern Hemisphere. However, It is not at all essential to live in the bioregion of the Northern hemisphere to benefits from these studies.
